An adventurous discovery of nomads in Central Mongolia and the majestic Altai Mountains in the far west – 18 Days
Day 1: Ulaanbaatar city tour
Arrive in Ulaanbaatar in the morning and transfer to the hotel. After breakfast and a short rest, visit Gandan Monastery and the National Museum. In the afternoon, visit Choijin Lama Temple Museum. Dinner at the hotel.
Day 2: Kharkhorin and Erdene Zuu Monastery
Travel west by jeep to the ancient Mongolian capital, Kharkhorin. Visit Erdene Zuu Monastery, part of the UNESCO World Heritage area, in the afternoon and enjoy a folklore performance in the evening. Stay in a ger camp beside the Orkhon River.
Day 3: Tsenkher hot springs
Continue west to Tsenkher hot springs. Hike or ride horses in a valley of the Khangai Mountains and enjoy a hot bath at the ger camp in the evening.
Day 4: Tsetserleg
Travel to Tsetserleg, whose name means flower garden. Attend a nomadic Naadam festival, then visit Zaya Bandi Temple Museum and the market in the afternoon. Continue west to Taikhar Chuluu on the Tamir River. Overnight in a ger camp.
Day 5: Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur, the White Lake
Continue west to Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur via Tariat village. Hike to the crater of Khorgo volcano. Overnight in a ger camp.
Day 6: Tosontsengel
Continue west to Tosontsengel village, shop in the village and camp beside the Ider River.
Day 7: Telmen Nuur saltwater lake
Travel west and set up camp at Telmen Nuur. Dinner and a campfire under the stars.
Day 8: Bor Khyariin Els sand dunes
Travel southwest to the Bor Khyariin Els dunes. Camp near Zavkhanmandal village.
Days 9–10: Khyargas Nuur
Reach Khyargas Nuur, a lake known for its abundant fish. Camp beside the lake.
Day 11: Ulaangom
Travel west via Ulaangom to the glaciated Turgen Mountains. Stay in a ger camp in a valley overlooking Lake Uureg Nuur.
Day 12: Ulgii
Continue west into the Altai Mountains over a 3,100 m pass. Arrive in Ulgii, the westernmost provincial capital and home to Kazakh and Tuvan communities. Visit the local market with traditional Kazakh products. Stay in a Kazakh ger camp.
Day 13: Altai Mountains
Continue west through spectacular Altai mountain scenery. Visit an eagle hunting family and stay in a camp near Ulgii.
Day 14: Tsambagarav glacier mountain
Travel to Tsambagarav (4,195 m), Mongolia's fourth-highest mountain, on the border of Khovd and Bayan-Ulgii provinces. Hiking is possible. Camp near the glacier.
Day 15: Khovd
Travel to Khovd via freshwater Lake Tolbo Nuur and Tsambagarav Mountain. Dinner and overnight in a ger camp on the outskirts of town.
Day 16: Flight to Ulaanbaatar and national park visit
Visit an active Buddhist temple in the morning and fly to Ulaanbaatar at midday. After the three-hour flight, travel to Gorkhi-Terelj National Park. Overnight in a camp.
Day 17: Aryabal mountain temple and Ulaanbaatar
Hike to Aryabal Temple and Turtle Rock. Lunch at the camp, then travel to Ulaanbaatar in the afternoon. Time for shopping and a farewell dinner in the evening.
Day 18: Departure
Morning transfer to the airport for your flight to Germany.

2 nights in a 3-star hotel, 10 nights in ger camps and 4 nights in tents.
