Day 1: Ulaanbaatar city tour
Morning arrival and hotel transfer. After breakfast and a short rest, visit Gandan Monastery and the National Museum. After lunch, visit Choijin Lama Temple Museum. Dinner at the hotel.
Day 2: Baga Gazariin Chuluu Mountains
Travel south to Baga Gazariin Chuluu, a scenic mountain range rising from the flat landscape. Stay in a separate guest ger with nomads.
Day 3: Temple ruins on the Ongi River
Continue southwest to temple ruins on the Ongi River. Walk to the memorial for victims of the communist era. Overnight in a ger camp.
Day 4: Flaming Cliffs at Bayanzag
Continue south in the morning and reach Bayanzag at midday, where early dinosaur fossils were discovered. Hike at the Flaming Cliffs in the afternoon, then drive to a ger camp north of the Three Beauties of the Gobi mountain range.
Day 5: Yoliin Am and Khongoriin Els
Drive to Yoliin Am / Vulture Valley, hike in the gorge and visit the Gobi Museum. In the afternoon, travel through Dungene Gorge to the 180 km-long Khongoriin Els dune chain. Stay two nights in a separate guest ger with nomads.
Day 6: Dune hike
Hike among the dunes. In the afternoon, visit a camel breeding family; camel riding is possible.
Day 7: Arvaikheer
Travel north to Arvaikheer over Altan Amin Davaa pass in the Altai Mountains. Arrive in the afternoon and check into a hotel.
Day 8: Naiman Nuur, the Eight Lakes
Travel to the beautiful Eight Lakes at 2,200 m in the Khangai Mountains. Continue to Ulaan Tsutgalan waterfall. Overnight in a separate guest ger with nomads.
Day 9: Tuvkhun mountain temple
Travel toward Kharkhorin, visiting Tuvkhun Temple on a mountaintop in the UNESCO World Heritage area. Stay three nights in a ger camp.
Day 10: Erdene Zuu Monastery
Visit Erdene Zuu Monastery and the excavation site of the Mongolian-German Karakorum Expedition. Enjoy a folklore performance in the evening.
Day 11: Ruins of the Uyghur capital (745–840)
Take a day trip to Khar Balgas to visit the ruins of the Uyghur capital and the Orkhon Valley–Karabalgasun project of the Mongolian-German Karakorum Expedition.
Day 12: Khushuu Tsaidam Turkic memorial
Visit the memorial to Prince Kul Tegin and his brother Bilge Khan. Continue to Lake Ugii Nuur. Overnight in a ger camp.
Day 13: Ulaanbaatar
Return to Ulaanbaatar, stopping at the 17th-century monastery ruins of Khar Bukhiin Balgas. Check into a hotel and enjoy a farewell dinner with folklore.
Day 14: Departure
Morning airport transfer and departure.
