Day 1: Arrival in Ulaanbaatar
Welcome to Mongolia! Arrive in the morning and meet at 11 am for a guided city tour. The capital has unique sights, including Bogd Khan's Winter Palace and the National Museum of Mongolian History. In the evening, enjoy a performance of contortion and throat singing.
Day 2: Khustai Nuruu National Park
Travel to Khustai Nuruu, where Przewalski's horses have been successfully reintroduced. Hike or ride horses in the park in the afternoon. Overnight in a separate guest ger with nomads on the park's edge.
Day 3: Kharkhorin and Erdene Zuu Monastery
Continue to the ancient Mongolian capital, Kharkhorin. Visit Erdene Zuu Monastery in the UNESCO World Heritage area. Enjoy folklore in the evening and stay in a ger camp beside the Orkhon River.
Day 4: Tsenkher hot springs
Travel to Tsenkher hot springs via the ruins of Khar Balgas. Arrive at the ger camp in the afternoon. Horse riding is possible, followed by a hot bath in the evening.
Day 5: Tsetserleg and Zaya Bandi Temple Museum
Travel to Tsetserleg, have lunch at the English missionaries' cafe and visit Zaya Bandi Temple Museum. Continue a short distance to Taikhar Chuluu on the Tamir River. Overnight in a ger camp.
Day 6: Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur, the White Lake
Travel to Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur and stay in a separate guest ger provided by nomads.
Day 7: Khorgo volcano
Spend the day hiking to Khorgo's volcanic crater and around the lake.
Day 8: Tosontsengel
Travel to Tosontsengel, described as Mongolia's coldest location, then continue to the river near Yaruu village. Camp beside the river.
Day 9: Bor Khyariin Els dunes
Continue west and camp beside the Bor Khyariin Els sand dunes.
Day 10: Khovd
Continue to Khovd in Western Mongolia. Stay in a ger camp on the outskirts of town.
Day 11: Tsambagarav glacier mountain
Travel northwest and camp with views of Tsambagarav (4,195 m).
Day 12: Ulgii
Continue west and arrive in the Kazakh provincial capital of Ulgii in the afternoon. Check into a Kazakh ger camp.
Days 13–14: Altai Tavan Bogd National Park
Travel via Tsengel village to Lakes Khoton and Khurgan in Altai Tavan Bogd National Park. Camp amid striking scenery overlooking the lake and larch forests.
Days 15–17: Potanin glacier river
Continue through Altai Tavan Bogd National Park and hike in the mountains toward the Potanin glacier river.
Day 18: Return toward Ulgii
Travel back toward Ulgii, visiting Kazakh and Tuvan families along the way. Overnight in tents.
Day 19: Arrival in Ulgii
Arrive in Ulgii, check into a ger camp and explore the town and market.
Day 20: Flight to Ulaanbaatar
Morning flight to Ulaanbaatar and hotel check-in. Time for sightseeing and shopping, followed by a farewell dinner with folklore. Overnight in a hotel.
Day 21: Departure
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Germany.
